Superhuman

When you don't fit in, you become superhuman. You can feel everyone else's eyes on you, stuck like Velcro. You can hear a whisper about you from a mile away. You can disappear, even when it looks like you're still standing right there. You can scream, and nobody hears a sound.

You become the mutant who fell into a vat of acid, the Joker who can't remove his mask, the bionic man who's missing all his limbs and none of his heart.

You are the thing that used to be normal, but that was so long ago, you can't even remember what it was like.

by Jodi Piccoult.

This passage really explains everything. I feel that many people don't feel like they fit in. But i think that it is just nonsense. Why do we have to be separated into groups; the 'in' and 'out'. We are all different and special in our own way. We shouldn't brand people or form clicks. Why must we divide ourselves? When there is no 'in' then there will be no 'out' and when there is no 'out' then there will be no 'in'. I know this is very subjective but this is kinda how i feel. It is something that may never change. But what i know is that we should not change just to fit in with the crowd but just be ourselves, special and unique and that is all that matters.

Are there really the 'in' and 'out' groups in school now?

does the groups matter. if your are alone so be it. if you are with a group so be it.

I have learn to accept what is. After all since you can't change the past. You can do the things that will change the future with the present.

In or Out groups are useless in school.. A small group of friends is good enough

well there is the human tendency to aggregate
and birds of a feather flock together right?
but cliques form naturally loh...
the comfort and ease within the group
tend to result in more time spent together
in similar interests
just plain enjoying one another s company
healthy closer friendships
the too exclusive ones are the unhealthy clique type which can give rise to the ...
obsessive 'in' and the perceived 'out'
more non-selective interaction among all would be a better habit to encourage
so that there wont be such an obvious demarcation of in the clique and the outcasts???
ya reading nineteen minutes reveals the harm the in and out culture can do....

aunty yee bee is right... clique (that's the correct spelling btw) forming is part of human nature. no-one is exempt, except maybe those who are total loners... but even they have some friends right?

arnan's "a small group of friends" is in itself, already a clique.

the thing is to strive to make sure that cliques do not become exclusive, but remain inclusive... and that they do not think themselves superior. that's what causes the 'in's and the 'out's...

but unfortunately, human nature being fallen and sinful, there is no easy way to do this.

i like your conclusion: just be yourself. don't succumb to peer pressure! yeah! =)
